The American Medical Association Resident and Fellow Section (AMA-RFS) Recognition of Excellence Award is given to an individual or group or organization that has made a significant impact on residents and fellows through their commitment to improve health care for all patients and has made significant contributions to the lives of our nation’s future physicians and other health care providers. Established in 1999, the inaugural award was presented to the television series ER. Other recipients include the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the AMA Foundation, and the American Medical Political Action Committee.
The award also provides incentive to encourage physicians to continue to participate in community service activities. One award is given each year. The AMA’s RFS Governing Council reviews all nominations and selects the recipient.
Criteria:
The individual or group award winner must have demonstrated at least one of the following:
Inspired residents and fellows through their commitment to improving health care for all patients and supported their desire to serve the patients of America.
Provided outstanding service/support to a group of residents and ultimately the patients they serve.
Involved in community service activities that have had a positive effect on the health care arena at the national or local level.
Demonstrated a positive effect on the image of residents and fellows in their educational environment.
