Minority Affairs Consortium Subcommittees

In working with AMA-MAC staff on evaluation and implementation, the core members of each subcommittee would be responsible for hosting online forums/discussions on key topics and assist in cultivating relationships that would support the goals of the MAC. Please note that members of policy/program development subcommittee must be a delegate or member of state/specialty society.

Patient advocacy
Objectives:

  • Improving minority health and eliminating racial and ethnic health care disparities.
  • Developing Web site content for use by other clinicians and laypersons on relevant health topics.
  • Monitor online discussion forums pertaining to minority health and eliminating racial and ethnic health care disparities.


Required activities: Work with AMA staff to develop data on relevant health topics and develop materials to post on the MAC Web site for Minority Health Month, National Diabetes Month, SIDS Awareness Month, etc.

Workforce diversity
Objectives:

  • Promoting diversity in the medical profession
  • Commitment to support AMA Doctors Back to School (DBTS) program
  • Identify other opportunities to provide education on workforce diversity


Required activities:
Coordinate 2 DBTS visits within in community during a 12 month period
Participate in monthly online forums to discuss workforce diversity opportunities with current workforce and student pipeline
Development of new program to enhance diversity

Policy/program development
Objectives:

  • Influencing policy and programs through leadership or involvement in organized medicine.
  • Communicate with greater MAC membership to assess feelings on current clinical and policy issues related to medicine
  • Conduct needs assessment (e.g. surveys or trending report) for resolution submission to AMA House of Delegates (HOD) or development of educational program

Required activities:
Facilities policy discussions on relevant topic
