CHICAGO - The American Medical Association (AMA) announced today the re-election of William A. Hazel, Jr., MD, a Northern Virginia orthopaedic surgeon, to a second consecutive term on the AMA Board of Trustees.
"I am honored to be re-elected to a position to help physicians achieve our shared goal of providing the best quality care to our patients," said Dr. Hazel.
Dr. Hazel has been a participant in the AMA House of Delegates, the association's policy-making body, since 1984, and is currently the secretary of the AMA Board of Trustees and chair of the AMA Compensation Committee. He served 11 years on the Council on Legislation, an AMA advisory committee on legislative activities.
Dr. Hazel has held many leadership positions in organized medicine, including president of the Medical Society of Virginia, president of the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital medical staff, and Chairman of the Inova Health System Medical Affairs Council, responsible for the staff of five Inova Hospitals. Dr. Hazel volunteers as the physician for Chantilly High School in Chantilly, Va. He worked for the Washington Redskins and as the D.C. United soccer team physician.
