CHICAGO - The American Medical Association (AMA) announced today the election of Kendall S. Allred as the medical student representative of its Board of Trustees.
Allred is entering his final year of medical school at the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he plans to earn his medical degree and a master's in public health. He was formally elected in November 2007 by his fellow medical students to serve a one-year term on the AMA Board of Trustees effective last week.
"I'm honored to have this opportunity to serve on the AMA Board," said Allred. "I look forward to shaping the future of medicine by representing the needs of medical students, physicians, and our patients."
Allred has had an active role in the AMA's Medical Student Section (MSS), the largest and most influential organization of medical students in the country dedicated to improving medical education, developing leadership, and promoting activism for the health of America. In 2005, he served as a regional chair for the AMA-MSS, while also chairing the state and local chapters in Arizona. In June 2006, Allred was elected vice chair of the AMA-MSS Governing Council, a group that acts as the board for the AMA-MSS in that it directs the programs and activities of the Section on a national level.
He is a 2004 magna cum laude graduate from Arizona State University in Phoenix, where he earned bachelor's degrees in microbiology and Spanish. During his undergraduate career, Allred was a member on the Committee of Migrant Health & Education Program and served as Emergency Department Lead Tech at Banner Baywood Medical Center.
Allred is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Emergency Medicine Residency Association and the University of Arizona College of Medicine Emergency Medicine Club. He is married and is a proud parent of a three-year-old son.
