The AMA-YPS also can provide information on what criterion specialty societies need to meet in order to gain representation in the AMA-YPS.
American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Committee for Young Physicians established 1993; committee meets annually and has authority to propose annual meeting programs, caucuses, booths, draft policy statements, legislative recommendations and develop other programs. American Academy of Family Physicians
In 1995, New Physicians Committee was merged with two other committees to become the Committee on Special Constituencies; it meets twice yearly to address issues within the Academy and for young physicians within their first seven years of practice. An annual conference of New Physicians, Women and Minorities addresses new physician issues, debates resolutions, elects two delegates and two alternates to annual Congress of Delegates (which sets AAFP policy), and elects the AMA-YPS representatives. Full range of activities and programs: first six months of membership is free after a physician completes his/her residency; "New physician welcome" packet mailed to all physicians as they complete their residency; new physician slide presentation to help with transition into practice is available; annual new physician luncheon at Congress of Delegates; listserv; new physician site on AAFP Web site.
