AMA's position regarding proposals to restrict disclosure of physician prescribing data
The AMA has prepared a position paper regarding the unintended consequences of proposals to restrict disclosure of physician prescribing data. The position paper discusses the importance of prescribing data in evidence based research and presents information on the AMA's new Physician Data Restriction Program (PDRP). It also re-iterates AMA's long standing advocacy of legislative efforts to protect patient confidentiality and its belief that physician prescribing data do not undermine patient confidentiality since patient data are de-identified prior to their collection and aggregation.
