Initiative to Transform Medical Education



The AMA's Initiative to Transform Medical Education (ITME) is designed for major stakeholders interested in promoting excellence in patient care by reforming the current medical education and training system.

Final report (PDF) of the December 2007 Working Conference - Phase 3: Program Implementation, Recommendations for Optimizing the Medical Education Learning Environment.

An invitational meeting is scheduled for Dec. 11-12, 2008 at the AMA Headquarters in Chicago to:

  • Evaluate existing research and commentary on elements within the learning environment for medical students and residents that contribute to the development of professional identity.
  • To prioritize the elements as areas for further research and program development.
