Sept. 21-22, 2009
Washington, D.C.
The establishment of a robust, all-hazards disaster health capability requires the development of an operational concept and framework for the response to catastrophic health events that is substantively distinct from and broader than that which guides day-to-day clinical and public health operations. To achieve this goal, the Third National Congress on Health System Readiness will provide a leadership forum for key stakeholders to deliberate foundational elements of a comprehensive disaster medical and public health preparedness system for the 21st century. This requires input and consensus from all relevant professions and disciplines. Through exploration of critical issues in a systematic way, this Congress seeks to coordinate and enhance efforts to educate health professionals, create an informed and prepared citizenry, empower communities, bolster clinical and public health infrastructures, and identify options to strengthen medical and public health systems so that they can effectively and efficiently prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and other public health emergencies.
During the conference, attendees will listen to and network with leading experts in the evolving field of Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness (DMPHP). In addition, all attendees will participate in facilitated discussion of the following core topics:
