Andrew W. Gurman, MD, re-elected to vice speaker, AMA House of Delegates

CHICAGO - The American Medical Association (AMA) announced today the re-election of Andrew W. Gurman, MD, a Pennsylvania orthopaedic hand surgeon, to his second consecutive term as vice speaker of the AMA House of Delegates. In this position, Dr. Gurman will assist in presiding over the policy-making body of the nation's largest physician organization.

"I look forward to continuing to encourage physicians to become personally involved in the AMA and the political process," said Dr. Gurman.

Dr. Gurman is an active member of the AMA Board of Trustees, serving on the Awards and Nominations Committee, the Audit Committee, and the Task Force on Liability Reform. He is a Board liaison to the AMA Council on Constitution and Bylaws, and to the AMA Advisory Committee on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues. Representing the AMA, Dr. Gurman also serves as co-chair of the National Business Group on Health Racial /Ethnic Health Advisory Board.

Dr. Gurman previously served as speaker and vice speaker of the Pennsylvania Medical Society House of Delegates, and worked as secretary and president of the Blair County Medical Society. He also chaired the department of orthopaedic surgery at Altoona Hospital, and is currently committed to remaining in private practice in Altoona, Pa.
